Polanski trio

Went to the vid store last night and got out three Polanski films: Knife in the Water, Repulsion, and Cul-de-sac.

I realised that I've only seen one Polanski film. Good lord. I've only seen Rosemary's Baby. How slack of me.

We've decided to watch the films chronologically, so we watched Knife in the Water (1963) last night. This was his feature debut, made in his native Poland. The next two films made were UK productions: Repulsion and Cul-de-Sac.

I enjoyed Knife in the Water. It's great to see a psychological drama that doesn't stoop to sensational plot devices. Set on a yacht over a period of two days, with only three characters, it was still totally engaging. I'm looking forward to watching the other two films.

Wait a second...you have not seen his greatest of all time? "Chinatown"?! Oh Rose this is by far one of the BEST films ever made-I think it's Jack Nicholson's finest too. I really like "Knife in the Water" also. Do not, I repeat, do not see "Bitter Moon". It will leave you in disgust that this was directed by Polanski. Hey-and "The Pianist" was great too! Have a fun filled Polanski weekend!

Yep, looked at Chinatown last night too - that's next on the list! I really find it strange that I've never watched Replusion. It's always been one I've meant to get out but have never been in the "right mood". Sometimes you just gotta bit the bullet, yeah? I'll leave Bitter Moon off the list though... Have just lit the fire (it's now officially spring but still cold). Bottle of wine and Repulsion. What a nice Sunday afternoon. Almost up-to-date on the work front too, so can relax in a guilt-free way. Nice!

Oh yeah, Chinatown is great. I'd be really into seeing it again. Just watched Repulsion (which I'd seen before but Rose hadn't) and have Cul-de-sac lined up for later on this evening.

You should've seen us arguing over what to get at the vid shop the other night. A sorry scene indeed.

The Pianist left me feeling like the Rbt. Williams cover art for Guns n' Roses' Appetite for Destruction.

Wasted.

Is that a recommendation?

Oh the video store is not the place for us. Oh no-it's like trying to fold laundry together-this is why we belong to Netflix. You pick movies out, put them on a list and they will mail them to you. No time limit. It's really brilliant. Except I just quit because we never make time to do our projects. The movies have to go right now. I'm sure by winter I'll be ready to start up again.

We joined something similar at the beginning of the year but still end up going to the video store. What I want to watch is so dependent on my mood and what the vid library send out never quite matches. I'm gonna quit it too. You just watch them because they have come in the mail and you have to!

Unleashed is a great movie, I think.
