In keeping with current times, how about some repeats.

I thought it might be time to revisit the first show I did back in Feb of 2009. Radi023 was in its infancy and we hadn't officially launched. None of the first 7 shows were even podcast.

Back then, I was playing solely New Zealand music which made for some interesting mixes.

I am still a very big fan of Swung. Please make some more music, Swung. It's wonderful, this stuff, and just leaves me wanting more.

I'm back after a few months break from the show. I have not been able to listen to anything jangly or loud or abrupt since my dad's death. So here are some songs to mark my Dad's passing. The kind of songs that are helping me to get through and come out the other side.

The first two songs were amongst those we chose for Dad's funeral service.

(Some are a little tongue-in-cheek towards the end, cos you have to keep a sense of humour.)

My dad was a big reader of my blog. I found out that once, when I had taken a break from blogging, he had downloaded my entire blog because he thought it was going to be deleted from the web. I never knew he was that interested in our lives. I've found out since that this was not true. His friends told us how much he talked of us. How proud he was.

Yes, this week is the time for guitars and drums. Noise-as-rock/rock-as-noise. Some of it's borderline. Some of it you might call drone. But to me, there's a hint of rock in all these tracks. More testosterone than you can shake a stick at.

It's my pleasure to be involved with the wonderful Radio23, which just launched officially on April 23. I've been listening to shows by the other DJs and I've gotta give a plug for I Will Not Return Your Records, hosted by the lovely Lorrie in Montreal. It's become my favourite Friday afternoon kick. Nice way to end the week. Great playlists - country(ish), rock(ish), folk(ish). From Neil Young to Six Organs of Admittance, by a roundabout route.

Another show on Radio23 that I adore (it's magic) is PRAEMISSVM PLANTARIO. This show takes me on a trip. I can't listen to it at the office, so I download the podcasts and listen at my leisure. Lots of sonic layers and otherworldly mutterings.

SESSION FIVE: At Home With Rose

I've decided to stick to my noise/drone/lo-fi genre in the future. While Radio23 is still in Beta, I'll possibly do another couple of shows of indie/pop/folkish tunes, but it suits to keep to relative genres since the station will be splitting into various genre-based channels.

I've been addressing copyright issues and contacting artists where I can. If you are on my playlist and I haven't yet contacted you - I'm sorry. I do intend to make sure I receive permission from all artists. Gotta do the right thing!

Thanks to Andy McLeod for sending through a track at the last minute. Very very pleased to include new track from new Auckland sludgy metal fiends, Evil Ocean.

Finish with two tracks from one of my all-time favourite bands, The Skeptics. I saw them play in Timaru so many years ago. They opened my ears and my eyes.
